Fourth Grade Family Giving Circle

During the 2016-2017 school year, Temple Emanu-El’s Department of Lifelong Learning piloted a special program with our Fourth Grade families.

Five families participated in our initial Family Giving Circle, meeting four times over the winter and spring to learn together about tzedakah and philanthropy. The families chose to focus on underprivileged youth as their area of need and explored different organizations working in New York City to help this population.

In our inaugural year, the Family Giving Circle (with the support of a matching gift from Temple Emanu-El’s Philanthropic Committee) donated $4,800 to In Arms Reach, an organization with a mission of breaking the cycle of inter-generational incarceration to instilling STEM exposure, academic enrichment, and mentorship to low-income children and families of New York City, including children of incarcerated parents and young adults.

If you are a Religious School family interested in joining a Family Giving Circle next year, then contact Jackie Schreiber, Program Director of Faculty and Family Engagement, at (212) 507-9534 or [email protected].
