Collection Highlights

Bohemia?, late 19th century

Inscribed for the mistress of the household, this elegant glass would have been used for the blessing over wine (Kiddush) during the Sabbath, Jewish holidays and life-cycle events. It is a rare example of a Kiddush cup designated specifically for women. The red glass is painted with cream-colored paint and highlighted with gilt. It is a fine example of a pre-existing object altered in order to dedicate it or ritual use.
